“The Commercial Master”
Written By: Cheryl Johnston
Anyone who has ever lost keys or been locked out of their car, home, or business can relate to the need for a relationship with a reliable and locksmith.
Residents, visitors, and organizations in Hillsborough and Polk counties should become familiar with the expert services of H. Charles Locksmith, “The Commercial Master.”
Howard Charles Smith has worked as a licensed, bonded, insured and certified locksmith for 18 years. His company can handle any type of work involving locks, doors, hardware, thresholds, panic bars, and keying systems. Emergency service is offered for all commercial and residential applications and vehicle lockouts.
Increasingly, security is a critical consideration for homeowners and business operators. With years of commercial experience for companies such as Coca Cola and Purdue Pharmaceuticals in New York and Plant City’s First Baptist and First Methodist churches among others, Smith is highly qualified to handle every situation and new installations as well. Locks that work properly can make all the difference.
Smith has another advantage as well. Prior to locksmithing, he used his criminal law degree from Mercy College for work in the legal field. He had his own security firm and served as a bodyguard when necessary.
This work, along with continual updates to trainings and certifications, has increased Smith’s capability to handle all forms of locking security systems, including security tokens such as keys and two-factor authentication (requiring both something a person knows, like a combination and something they have, like a key or keycard).
Services include installation of high security locks, panic bars, door closers, keying/re-keying and master keying systems. The company also offers maintenance and encourages annual contracts, especially for commercial facilities.
Because of strong relationships Smith established with his major commercial customers, he also frequently installed their building’s doors to ensure proper fit and closure, something critical to full functionality of locking and security systems.
Born in New York, he moved here two years ago to care for his father. Smith is proud of “family roots that run very deep here,” since Smith’s father is one of 12 children and 30 members also call Central Florida home. His mother can trace her Dutch ancestry in this country back 400 years. Needless to say, family is important and one of the things he enjoys most about Plant City. Smith said, “Family values resonate throughout this community.”
Smith also feels a responsibility to train up the next generation in order to give back to the community, economy, and country. With that in mind, he now teaches his trade and business practices to Janda Kistner, the 19-year-old who impressed him with her work ethic six months ago when he stopped in at Nick’s Pizza. As Smith watched the young woman help her boss remodel the store, he admired her determination and dexterity for handling tools, solving problems, and thinking things through. Janda is the eldest of 11 children, eight sisters and two brothers, and the daughter of a homeschool “mom who fixes stuff, too.”
Kistner is proud to train with Smith and especially enjoys “learning new things like pinning locks and installing thresholds.” She said also, “I love going to work – the patience locksmithing requires and the challenges it presents. I’ve learned so much from Mr. Smith, and my mom thinks it’s really cool, too. I hope to make it my career.”
H. Charles Locksmith has developed great respect for and solid working relationships with the other local locksmiths since he moved to Plant City to help his dad. But he believes his company’s experience and his own track record is the best indicator of why folks should call “The Commercial Master” first.
In the locksmith business, you name it and Smith has done it. The company is pleased to provide services to Plant City, Tampa, Temple Terrace, Brandon, Dover, Gibsonton, Riverview, Lakeland, Mulberry, Bartow, Auburndale and Winter Haven. Call H.
